Con motivo del último lanzamiento de Ediciones Fontenebro, «Look under this» de Bernd Boehm, hemos comisariado una selección de películas en super 8 y 16 mm que se proyectarán junto con las películas en super 8 de Boehm Horst Und Lene Im Märchenwald y Der Kleine Tod, esta ultima filmada en colaboración con Maja Lene Rettig. Decidimos acotar la selección a obras realizadas principalmente hacia finales de 1980 (salvo por Rohfilm), un periodo que coincide con la relación afectiva entre Boehm y Rettig, así como con su paso por la Academia de Arte de Braunschweig, donde asistió a clases de Birgit y Wilhelm Hein por recomendación de Matthias Müller. Junto con Müller y sus compañeros Christiane Heuwinkel y Thomas Lauks, formaron el colectivo de distribución Alte Kinder.

Cabe destacar que Boehm nunca se sintió parte de este grupo, ya que nunca estudió bellas artes y desarrolló paralelamente su propia práctica creativa, permaneciendo en cierto modo como un extraño. No obstante, creemos que estas coincidencias ofrecen un contexto más amplio de la obra de Boehm y del cine experimental en Alemania a finales de los años ochenta. Queremos dar las gracias especialmente a Bernd Boehm por habernos enviado las películas originales en super 8, así como a Matthias Müller y Christiane Heuwinkel, que generosamente han redigitalizado una copia de Epilog para una visualización óptima.

Como broche de oro, saltamos veinte años hacia atrás para proyectar Rohfilm, rindiendo homenaje además a los Hein, fallecidos en 2023 y 2025. Realizada en 1968, Rohfilm es considerada hoy una de las películas estructurales más importantes del siglo XX y sin duda fue una notable influencia para un gran número de cineastas experimentales.

On the occasion of Ediciones Fontenebro’s latest release, Bernd Boehm’s “Look under this”, we have curated a selection of super 8 and 16 mm films to be screened along with Boehm’s super 8 movies Horst Und Lene Im Märchenwald and Der Kleine Tod, the latter collaboratively filmed with Maja Lene Rettig. The selection has been primarily reduced to the late 1980’s (with the exception of Rohfilm), a period which coincides with the affective relationship between Boehm and Rettig, as well as with her time at Braunschweig Art Academy, where she attended classes by Birgit and Wilhelm Hein on the recommendation of Matthias Muller. Along with Muller and colleagues Christiane Heuwinkel and Thomas Lauks, they would form the Alte Kinder distribution collective.

However, it must be noted that Boehm never felt he pertained to such a group, having never attended art school, developing his own creative practice in parallel, remaining somehow an outsider. We believe however that such coincidences do offer a broader context to Boehm’s work and experimental filmmaking in Germany in the late 1980’s. We would like to specially thank Bernd Boehm for having sent us the original super 8 films along with Matthias Muller and Christiane Heuwinkel who have generously re-digitized a copy of Epilog for optimal viewing.

As a grand finale, we jump back twenty years to screen Rohfilm, paying tribute to the Hein family, who passed away in 2023 and 2025. Made in 1968, Rohfilm is now considered one of the most important structural films of the 20th century and was undoubtedly a major influence on a large number of experimental filmmakers.
